Four police officers have reported to the National Anti-corruption Center (NAC) that they were offered bribes in the line of duty, and a judge has reported that a lawyer requested her to postpone a court sitting in exchange for some favors. The reports were submitted within less than a week from the start of NAC's efforts to test the professional integrity of public agents.
According to a press release from NAC, the four officers are traffic patrol inspectors who reported that they were offered money by pulled-over drivers who wanted to avoid traffic tickets. While the officers refused the money, they failed to take the steps necessary to initiate criminal proceedings against the bribers.
In the next few days, officers from NAC's Corruption Prevention Division will provide supplementary training to the law-enforcement and explain how an officer must act when someone tries to offer a bribe.
Any bribery attempt can be reported at the national anti-corruption line 0 800 55555.
