The Fraud Division of the Ministry of the Interior so far this year has identified 50 cases of illegal issuing of sanatorium tickets in a number of northern districts. Criminal cases were opened in 19 cases over abuse of power and forging of public documents, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on February 9, Vitalie Briceag, subunit head at the Fraud Division, said that persons holding responsible positions at insurance houses and social assistance divisions are suspected of forging applications and documents for issuing tickets to sanatoriums to third persons, relatives or high-ranking officials.
“There were questioned several victims who are of old age. According to the lists, they went to sanatorium, but in reality some of them do not even have passports that would enable them to go abroad,” said Vitalie Briceag, adding that a part of the persons involved in the illegalities are already investigated as suspects.
Representatives of the National Social Insurance House and the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family said they do not possess information about the illegalities identified by the Ministry of the Interior. If evidence is found, the persons to blame will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, 40 such cases were discovered last year. The damage caused was assessed at 5.1 million lei. The cases are sent to court.
