A batch of 5,000 copies of the Romanian language textbook was donated for students enrolled in the National Program for the Study of the Romanian Language. Designed for the A1 level, the new title, printed with the support of People in Need, is intended for beginners and treats themes related to everyday life, IPN reports.

The textbook consists of thematic units that cover topics from everyday life. “We start with simple structures to facilitate communication, which is essential at this level,” explained doctor of philology and co-author of the textbook Alexei Axan.

Another batch of 3,000 textbooks, for the A2 level, will be donated soon, secretary of state of the Ministry of Education and Research Valentina Olaru announced.

“This initiative is part of a large project on education in emergencies, which supports both local minorities and communities of Ukrainian refugees,” said Jana Touzimska, deputy regional director of People in Need, the sponsor of the project.

Among the students of this program are people from various social backgrounds, including retirees who want to develop their professional skills.

“This course offers a valuable opportunity for nice career achievements. I’m a university professor and I teach in Russian, but I also have opportunities to teach in Romanian. So, I’m glad that I have the opportunity to study Romanian,” said a teacher of the State Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă”.

One of the students, a 63-year-old pensioner, added: “I wanted to learn Romanian for a long time so that I could communicate with my children and grandchildren, who live in Romania and Israel.”

The program offers 160 hours of training, including online modules and in-person sessions. Increased attention is paid to teachers from the south of the country, including ATU Gagauzia, Taraclia and Ceadîr-Lunga, but also to those from the municipality of Chisinau.

So far, over 5,300 people have enrolled in the National Program for the Study of the Romanian Language. Estimates show that by the end of the year, almost 10,000 people will graduate from the courses. The donation was made possible thanks to the funding of People in Need Moldova within the education in emergencies support program, implemented with resources of SOS Ukraine and donations of the Czech people.
