57 kilograms of hashish drugs valued at 6 million lei have been seized at the Leuseni customs checkpoint. The drugs were from Spain and were transported to be sold in Russia, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Anatolie Ivanov, deputy head of department at the General Police Commissariat, told reporters on Friday that the seizure was possible as result of operative intelligence. Officers of the General Police Commissariat in Chisinau, those of the Prosecutor General’s Office and of the Customs Service created a special investigation group to prevent the actions of a drug dealing channel.
“On July 25, at about 11.30 PM, in the Leuseni customs checkpoint, two of the suspects have been arrested. Heard by the law enforcement agents, the suspects, Moldovan citizens, declared they had nothing to say. The smugglers were aged between 25 and 29 and came from Ialoveni district. According to the preliminary investigation, they transported hashish from Spain in the fuel tank of a car bought there. Part of the drugs was to be sold in Moldova and the rest was to be transported to Russia. The vehicle was to be sold at a good price”, said Ivanov.
The police has information that this wasn’t the first crime of the arrested group. This is the biggest drug seizure this year. If the suspects are found guilty of illegal traffic of psychotropic substances or their analogues for purpose of sale, they risk between 7 and 15 years in jail. A chemical expertise of the narcotic substance is expected.
