As many as 597,000 dwellings, including occupied and unoccupied ones, and 860,000 people have already been enumerated. The counted population includes the people with ordinary residence and other persons. The data are collected by 4,000 census takers, director of the National Bureau of Statistics Oleg Cara told a press conference, IPN reports.
Among the leaders in the enumeration process are the districts of Glodeni, Orhei, Soroca, Telenesti, Ungheni, Calarasi, Anenii Noi. Lower census taking rates are recorded in Chisinau, Balti, Briceni, Cimislia, Cantemir and Cahul districts. Rest. In the rest of the districts of the country, the pace is at medium level.
According to Oleg Cara, the pace of data collection is influenced by the people’s willingness to provide information. As a rule, in rural areas, where census takers are known to the population, the people are more willing to provide information on the enumerator's first visit. In Chisinau and Balti, the enumerators make an additional effort to convince the people to participate in the census, but the people, as they are employed, ask to be visited at particular hours. This makes the census taking process more difficult.
The population can call the NBS’s green line for questions regarding the census, from 08:00 to 21:00, but they can also ask questions through the NBS’s website. So far, 700 calls have been made to the green line. The most frequent questions refer to the identity of the enumerator, requests to be visited earlier or at a certain time, the correctness of filling in questionnaires, the obligation to present the IDNP. In this connectioin, Oleg Cara said that the IDNP must be presented to the enumerator by the population.
When visiting the household, the enumerators must necessarily identify themselves, be equipped with a cap, T-shirt, vest and tablet. If there are questions about the identity of the census taker, the population is urged to call the green line.
All answers obtained from the population are to be entered into the application by the enumerator and, at the request of the visited person, explanations will be provided regarding the census questions. If certain answers need to be modified or supplemented, this can be done until the end of the interviewing. Enumerators’ working hours are flexible - between 08:00 and 21:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 21:00 on weekends.
According to Oleg Cara, in some cases the citizens had non-compliant behavior and the police notified were notified of these. The cases are being examined by the competent bodies.
Data on the refusal to take part in the census will be available at the end of the census taking process.
