About 62% of the Ukrainian citizens living in Moldova voted for the Party of Regions, Ukraine's governing party. The Ukrainian Embassy in Chisinau informed that 815 persons cast votes in the legislative elections last Sunday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Of the 815 voters, 11% voted for the Ukrainian Communist Party. The Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform UDAR (Punch), led by heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko, garnered 7.7%, followed by Svoboda (Freedom) Party and Batkivshchyna (Freedom) Bloc, with 5.1% each.
Moldova's Ukrainians were able to cast votes at two polling stations, one hosted by the Embassy in Chisinau and the other by the Consulate in Balti. No polling places were opened in the Transnistrian region, but the Ukrainian authorities arranged transportation instead for voters residing there.
In Ukraine, early results showed President Viktor Yanukovych's Party of Regions comfortably ahead of ex-Premier Yulia Tymoshenko's Batkivshchyna Bloc.
