80% of the population of Moldova have obligatory health insurance policies. The head of the National Health Insurance Company Mircea Buga told a news conference that the number of persons who bought health insurance policies in 2010 was by 30.5% higher than a year before. The rise was determined by the 75% reduction in the price of the insurance premium offered to farmland owners, for the first time in the obligatory health insurance policy system, Info-Prim Neo reports. As a result of the increase in the number of medically ensured persons who pay the fixed insurance premium, the collected incomes grew to 40.4 million lei, up about 2 million lei compared with 2009. The collections into the obligatory health insurance funds rose by 18.9% on 2009, to 3.4 billion lei. This is also due to the rise in the contributions paid by the employers and employees into the obligatory health insurance funds. Last year, these contributions represented 42.2% of the total revenues and totaled 1.4 billion lei. This year, the price of the health insurance policy increased by 294 lei on last year. The contribution of the employers and employees paid into the state health insurance budget remained at the same level – 3.5%.
