The World Health Organization (WHO) has set degree 6 for the level of morbidity with A (H1N1) flu virus, what confirms it's a pandemic. The last time they announced a flu pandemic was 40 years ago, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Tests confirm we are at a start of a pandemic. About 30,000 people from 74 countries are attacked by the A (H1N1) virus. 144 people have died,” said the WHO's president Margaret Chen on Thursday.
In terms of aggressiveness, this pandemic is moderate. However “the game rules are set by the virus and they can change any time,” Margaret Chen underlines.
The A (H1N1) virus has not been met in humans or animals till recently. The morbidity coefficient is between 22% and 33%, compared to the ordinary flu – 5% and 15%. The largest part of the cases of catching A (H1N1) are found in young people, below 25 years. 85% of the sick are registered in low-income countries.
A preventing program is to be soon adopted at a reunion of representatives of CIS countries in Chisinau.
Moldovan authorities of different types and levels have already drafted plans to prevent the infection.
No case of catching A (H1N1) has been recorded in Moldova so far, but the risk is high, since are 11 cases reported in neighboring Romania.
