A person was detained last week following searches carried out in Jora de Jos village of Orhei district within a case of illegal financing of a political party by an organized group. About 1 million lei was found at the scene and seized. A sum of €36,000 was seized in another case of illegal financing of a political party by an organized group, IPN reports.
The National Anticorruption Center said that the cases also refer to passive electoral corruption, passive corruption and violation of the management of financial means of political parties or electoral funds.
Last week’s measures also involved 18 civil servants, including the mayor and deputy mayor of Orhei, the chief architect, ascertaining agents and a number of district councilors. Three defendants were placed under house arrest for 30 days, and one defendant – in remand detention for 30 days.
The NAC received from the General Police Inspectorate over 100 reports on passive electoral corruption, including the accepting or receiving, personally or through an intermediary, by a voter of goods, services, privileges or advantages in any form. This contravention carries a penalty in the form of a fine of up to 37,500 lei.
