The stubble fields continue to be burned after reaping this year as well. Such cases have been identified in practically all the districts of the country. About 1,200 hectares of stubble fields have been burned so far, the damage caused to the soil being estimated at 300,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. According to the Ministry, the organic substance in the layer of fertile soil and the microflora and useful insects are being destroyed by fire. A long period of time is needed for rehabilitation. Though the economic entities that cultivate cereal crops have been warned not to allow burning the stubbles as this has a negative impact on the environment, they continue doing so. In all the identified cases, the ecologic inspectors calculated the damage caused to the soil and drew up reports that were sent to court. As it is difficult to find the person to blame in most of the cases, the beneficiary or owner of the land bear overall responsibility. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources calls on the local public authorities, managers of agricultural units and the population to give up this harmful practice as it has serious consequences on the environment.
