Pensioners with the lowest incomes will receive one-time payments of 2,300 lei at the beginning of November. It goes to about 31,000 pensioners, who had a complete 40-year contribution period at the time of retirement and receive a pension that does not exceed 3,300 lei. The allowances will be distributed at post offices at the beginning of November and recipients need to produce only their identity card, IPN informs.

“The Government, together with the World Food Program, is launching a one-time payment program for pensioners of the Republic of Moldova, who at the time of retirement had a minimum contribution period of 40 years, and currently have a pension of less than 3,300 lei,” Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu told a press conference.

The aid will be offered automatically, without pensioners needing to submit applications or other documents to the National House of Social Insurance. For clarity, the beneficiaries will receive notifications from the Government so that they know about this payment and how they are going to benefit from it, the minister said.

In another development, Alexei Buzu noted that currently, in Moldova, the minimum contribution period is 34 years and the authorities have identified financial sources for a specific group of pensioners, namely those who worked for at least six years more after completing the minimum contribution period, but get a small pension.

Over 71 million lei will be allocated for granting the one-time allowances from outside the state budget.

The United Nations World Food Program is the largest humanitarian organization for providing international food aid. The Program is present in more than 120 countries and territories.
