The president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, academician Gheorghe Duca appointed Doctor of History Valery Kavruk as acting director of the Academy's Cultural Patrimony Institute. Valeri Kavruk, who had headed the National Museum of the Eastern Carpathians in Romania's Sfantu Gheorghe from 1998, returned to Moldova at the invitation of the Academy, the institution says in a communique.
The major duty of the new director will be to safeguard the cultural patrimony. He will also have to attract financial and human resources.. The Institute is to take part in the working out of a viable strategy that would allow the Government of Moldova to formulate legislation on the protection (conservation) of the cultural patrimony.
The Institute will also devise a multiannual cultural patrimony program so that this dimension of culture becomes a priority for Moldova. “Every archeological village, architectural monument and peasant house with patrimonial value must have a file with all the scientific examinations and measurements in it so that they could be included in the official list of patrimony that will be published in the Official Gazette. This way, the patrimony will have not only scientific but also legal value and this will be an additional guarantee that the national heritage will be safeguarded and administered well,” Valeri Kavruk said.
Born on September 24, 1957 in Akbalyk, Kazakhstan, Valery Kavruk graduated from the History Faculty of the Sate University of Moldova (1974-1979). He obtained a Doctor's Degree from the Moscow State University “Mihail Lomonosov", the History Faculty (1984-1988).
Valery Kavruk taught history in Basarabeasca town. He was a scientific researcher of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and lecturer at the History Faculty of the Teacher Training University “Ion Creanga" (1988-1995). From 1995, he had headed the National Museum of Transylvania History in Cluj-Napoca. He is the author and co-author of five monograms and author of about 60 scientific articles about archeology and cultural patrimony.
