Accountant of Chisinau hospital suspected of stealing about 900,000 lei

The accountant of a national medical institution based in Chisinau was arrested in Greece and extradited to Moldova, being suspected of stealing about 900,000 lei from the hospital, Info-Prim Neo repots, quoting a communiqué from the Anticorruption Center. In 2007-2011, the accountant responsible for the payment of salaries used personal data from the institution’s archive and opened fictitious salary card accounts for a number of employees who were abroad at that moment, no longer worked at the hospital, or were even dead. The money transferred in the period to the bank accounts opened illegally was afterward withdrawn through different ATMs in Chisinau. The accountant was arrested as a result of the cooperation with anticorruption bodies of Greece and was extradited. He faces 8 to 15 years in jail. He will be held at the remand unit of the Anticorruption Center for 30 days.
