Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Stephane Bride discussed with representatives of the administration of Moldova’s Railways in the Giurgiulesti port possibilities of resolving the disputes that appeared between these and the administration of the Giurgiulesti Free International Port over the railway checkpoint. The dialogue was held within Stephane Bride’s fact-finding visit to the Port, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Economy.
The Ministry said that during a meeting with the Prime Minister earlier, it was decided to build a modern checkpoint in the Port in the near future. Until then, the two institutions are to coordinate the work of the temporary checkpoint set up there so that this does not affect their activity.
During his visit, Stephane Bride inquired about the Port’s activity, the development projects implemented there, the import and export of goods and the problems faced by the Port’s resident companies. The given problems were discussed with the Port’s general investor ICS Danube Logistics SRL.
ICS Danube Logistics SRL director general Tomas Moser informed the acting minister of economy about the projects to develop the Port’s infrastructure that are under implementation. The given projects will allow increasing the import and export through Moldova’s maritime gate. By April 1, 2015, the investments in the Port came to US$62.9 million, about US$50 million of which were made by ICS Danube Logistics.
Speaking about the Port’s activity in 2014, Tomas Moser said last year the Port served 435 ships, including fuel tanks. About 730,000 tonnes of goods were transported through the fluvial terminals, an increase of 1.6 times on 2013.
Founded in 2005, the Giurgiulesti Free International Port now houses 50 resident companies working in different areas of activity.
