The internal inquiry at the General Inspectorate for Migration, initiated after the murder of the Turkish citizen on July 10 in the capital city, is in full swing. Asked by journalists about possible resignations or suspensions, Minister of the Interior Adrian Efros said that a decision will be taken after the investigation, depending on the involvement or non-involvement of the human factor in this process, IPN reports.

On July 16, the Ministry of the Interior announced that an internal inquiry was launched into the actions taken by the officials involved in documenting the case of the Turkish citizen, victim of the murder committed on July 10.

On Tuesday, Minister Adrian Efros said that the investigation will last for a period of 30 days. “This deadline has not yet expired and we want a very thorough investigation so that we can come up with improvements and make sure that in the future we will not have such cases,” the minister told journalists.

On July 10, a Turkish citizen was murdered on the terrace of a restaurant in Râșcani district of the capital city. After the murder, it was determined that the victim was a criminal wanted by the British authorities. Parliamentary hearings followed and it was announced that a number of state institutions will carry out internal inquiries.

The Turkish citizen could stay in Moldova even though the Security and Intelligence Service informed the General Inspectorate for Migration that the person is wanted internationally and he was convicted of a number of crimes. The Turkish citizen’s right to asylum was rejected in 2022, but the decision was appealed in court and the person concerned continued to stay in the Republic of Moldova. The law provides that particular files of foreign citizens who pose risks are examined through a fast procedure. However, the GIM did not make use of this provision.
