The preliminary election outcome in Chisinau, according to which the Communist candidate Igor Dodon won 52% of the poll, is shocking, politologist Mihai Cernencu stated for Info-Prim Neo. Even if the results cover only Chisinau not the whole municipality, they confirm that Dorin Chirtoaca was unable to maintain his voters despite the maximum mobilization effort in Chisinau, said the politologist.
“This is a serious problem for Chisinau. The PCRM can hold about half of the seats of councilor. The situation also depends on the other members of the Council,” said Mihai Cernencu.
The politologist considers that the blame for such a poor result is born by the Alliance for European Integration because the members of the government coalition argued between them, especially in recent times. The fact that the alliance did not have a common candidate was also a problem.
As to the electoral behavior of the people, Mihai Cernencu said the irresponsible voters often give their votes to accidental persons who do not have the ability, possibility and knowledge needed to analyze and see what is really important for the community. “They don’t know how the local business can be helped, how money can be earned for a water pipe, a road, etc.,” said Cernencu.
He also said that the responsibility of the voters is measured by the responsibility of those elected and the people should realize this after 20 years of independence.
“Moreover, I think the candidates should enter Parliament only after working for five years in the local public administration so that they know the problems confronting the community. Many of those who competed for the post of mayor were unsuitable candidates,” said Mihai Cernencu.
With 99% of the votes in Chisinau counted, Igor Dodon won 52% of the poll, while Dorin Chirtoaca - 43%. With 90% of the votes for the Chisinau Municipal Council counted, the PCRM polled 49.9% of the ballot, the PL – 29.9%, the PLDM – 12.8%, while the PDM – 2.7%. The results for the whole municipality will be announced later.
