The President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet and Head of Parliament Andrian Candu transmitted congratulatory messages to the people on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the declaration of independence on August 27, 2015, IPN reports.

Nicolae Timofti said that after obtaining independence, Moldova became an equal partner before the other states. “In these 24 years, we witnessed accomplishments and setbacks equally. We achieved many things, but also made mistakes from which we can learn the lesson. The last few years showed that by the accomplishments achieved at internal level and in our foreign policy, the most daring objectives can be achieved. We travel freely in the Schengen area and became associated with the European Union. We have well-structured institutions working based on the European model. It’s time to remodel the other institutions that remained anchored in another epoch and to put them at the people’s service,” stated the head of state.

Andrian Candu noted that during the 24 years of independence, Moldova’s European road has become the most important project that must be supported so that the country’s future in the EU is safe and accompanied by convincing accomplishments that would lead to better living standards. “Our supreme commitment and duty is to continue to work for the people of Moldova to feel fulfilled and happy. Everyone should become involved for this to happen,” he stated.

In his message, Valeriu Strelet says that after declaring its independence, Moldova escaped captivity. “There are voices saying that this day is not an occasion for rejoicing because we are going through difficult times and witnessing the depreciation of the national currency, banking thefts, poverty and many other problems. However, I’m firmly convinced that today Moldova needs new energy and revitalization, as 24 years ago. I’m sure we will succeed, but we must work together in this regard. The protests, street demonstrations and destructive comments that have been more intensely disseminated lately could deepen the system crisis instead of helping overcome it, making it irreversible,” he said.
