After a two-hour pause, Chisinau Council’s (CMC) chairman postponed the sitting for the next week. Eduard Musuc announced the decision in the presence of 5 councilors. The others had not returned from the break announced, after which a group of pensioners tried forcedly to enter the sitting hall. The elderly protested for about two hours in front of the City Hall and then in the building, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The protest action was organized by the NGO “Salvgardare.” The protesters asked the CMC’s chairman to come and promise them that the heat supply tariff would be reduced. During the break, Eduard Musuc answered the elderly who were waiting in the hall, that their claims were inserted into the order of the day of the sitting, though, actually, the order of the day had not been approved.
When Musuc announced about postponing the sitting, the elderly called him a liar and told him that he is manipulating the public.
Opposition councilors accused Musuc of violating the CMC’s regulation. “It is an abuse. Musuc had no reason to put off the sitting. Here we can see his fear, his incapacity and inefficiency. The fact that the policemen allowed the access of the protesters in the City Hall proves that the Communist local authorities want the dismissal of Eduard Musuc from the post he holds,” Oleg Cernei, a councilor from AMN, stated.
PPCD’s leader Alexandru Corduneanu showed himself surprised that no one asked for the factions’ opinion when it was decided to postpone the sitting.
“Lately Musuc – either convenes, if he wants, or cancels the CMC’s sittings. He makes decisions alone,” PL leader Mihai Ghimpu commented.
The local authorities were to endorse many questions, including Chisinau’s 2009 budget.
