Aggressors also need rehabilitation, prosecutor

The aggressors who maltreat the family members are usually drug addicts or persons who abuse alcohol. Special rehabilitation services are needed in order to help such families, including the aggressors, so that they could overcome the difficult situations, considers Ion Oboroceanu, prosecutor of Causeni district, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference earlier, Ion Oboroceanu said it is very important that the aggressors receive detox treatment. Such a practice is now not implemented. “The medical institutions tell us that they cannot provide services to this group of persons free of charge, but they do not know that a law adopted in 2007 provides that all the medical, social and legal services for aggressors and victims of domestic violence are gratis. If money is asked in medical institutions for certain rehabilitation services, this is a violation of the law,” stated the prosecutor. Ion Oboroceanu believes that there must be instituted obligatory services designed for persons in difficulty. “The fact that the medical personnel at local and district levels do not know the legal provisions leads to the issuing of different orders. This is not right. We must get rid of the departmental interests and contribute to the rehabilitation and re-socialization of these aggressors. If the aggressors do not benefit from rehabilitation, they become recidivists,” said the prosecutor. According to statistics, 80% of the victims of domestic violence are women and children.
