President Igor Dodon signed the decree to promulgate the law on the ratification of the grant agreement concluded by exchange of notes between the Government of Moldova and the Government of Japan for implementing the project “Conservation agriculture, development of a sustainable soil management system in the Republic of Moldova”. The decree was published in the June 16 number of the Official Gazette, IPN reports.
Under the grant agreement, the Government of Japan will offer Moldova US$4.8 million in non-repayable funding for developing conservation agriculture in the Republic of Moldova, in particular for purchasing agricultural equipment and machinery.
In particular, the Japanese grant will enable to increase the volume of humus and to conserve soil moisture given that Moldova often experiences droughts.
The project will be managed by the 2KR Increase of Food Production Project Implementation Unit during two years of the coming into force of the accord.
