The price of wheat decreases not only in Moldova, but all over the world and is influenced by the large crop, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eduard Grama said, commenting on the assertions by leaders of associations of agricultural producers that the price of wheat in Moldova is diminished artificially, IPN reports.
The minister noted that several weeks ago he had a meeting with operators that purchase grains and with representatives of civil society and agricultural producers and explained that the wheat harvest is also large in the neighboring countries and in the countries that dictate the rules on the market.
The price of wheat is influenced by the weak logistics. More exactly, large volumes of grain can be exported from Moldova only through the Giurgiulesti port. However, a maximum quantity of 7,000 tonnes can be transported from there, as against 20,000 to 100,000 tonnes at the port in Constanta. Thus, the costs diminish and the price of wheat is slightly higher.
The price of wheat in Moldova oscillates between 2.2 and 2.8 lei per kilogram. The closer the wheat is to the port in Giurgiulesti, the higher the price is as the logistic costs decrease and vice versa.
Eduard Grama added that the state cannot regulate the grain prices and does not have the right to intervene. On the domestic market, there are about 20 operating companies that purchase grains. Thus, we cannot speak about abuses or agreements between these.
At the start of this week, a number of leaders of agricultural producers said a carter agreement for artificially diminishing the prices of wheat and barley was concluded on the domestic market. These asked the authorities to intervene. Otherwise, they will mount protests.
