The Russian-Slavic Party’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Alexandru Matu does not have the residence in the municipalty and thus could not vote, but he called on the residents of Chisinau to change their views for the city’s benefit.
The candidate has told IPN that time has come for all the citizens to realize that they should stop voting for the same political class that has lied for dozens of years. “They should have a lucid mind for the city’s benefit!” said Alexandru Matu.
Eleven candidates are contending for the mayoralty of Chisinau. For the elections to be valid, the voter turnout should be of at least one fourth of the voters. The candidate who gains more than half of the votes wins the elections. If no one gathers the necessary number of votes, runoffs are held in two weeks for the two candidates who obtained most of the votes. If the elections are invalidated or nullified, they are rerun in two weeks based on the same voter rolls and with the same candidates.
