The chairman of UniAgroProtect Alexandru Slusari said the farmers hoped that their demands to remedy the situation in agriculture will be fulfilled when the agricultural package is adopted. However, after they were promised that this package will be passed in July at the latest, Parliament went on vacation and the package was adopted in the first reading only, while Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet in a recent meeting suggested that the chances for this package to be passed in the second reading are slim owing to the position of the IMF, IPN reports.
In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Alexandru Slusari said that when he met with the Premier the last time, he told him that his signature is also present on a number of the bills from this package. “He told us to go to those with whom we negotiated, but he is a person who represents a party of the ruling alliance,” he stated, noting that a part of the farmers consider that by the promise that the package will be passed, made by Head of Parliament Andrian Candu, the Democratic Party wanted to delay things so that the agricultural producers didn’t stage protests.
The head of UniAgroProtect said that the last meeting of agricultural organizations was attended by about 60 farmers representing different parties, who are very disappointed in these. Regardless of the political affiliation, all the farmers sustained losses this year owing to the actions or inaction of the ruling parties.
“There is no political will. The bill that institutes another method of forming oil prices not only for farmers, but also for the whole population was to be adopted by July 31.We pay by 2 lei more for a liter of diesel fuel or a liter of gasoline in accordance with the current methodology, which suits those that import oil products. The appraisal of the Government is not needed for this bill. The MPs didn’t yet adopt this rather important bill owing to the influence exerted on them by particular rich persons,” stated Alexandru Slusari.
According to him, the farmers sustain huge losses owing mainly to the inaction of the authorities. Besides making empty statements that we must be competitive on the European markets, the rulers do nothing for the farmers.
