Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase informed the Supreme Council of Magistrates about the violations committed by the Supreme Court of Justice when examining the case concerning the disciplinary punishment imposed by the Council on judge Ion Muruianu. The violations were identified by the civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Ministry of Justice.
After examining the case, the Supreme Court of Justice decided to quash the Council's decision of March 9, whereby judge Ion Muruianu was given a severe reprimand following the rude comments he made about the journalists and lawyers at the annual assembly of judges.
Alexandru Tanase notified the Supreme Council of Magistrates that a series of NGOs informed him about serious violations of the standard procedures committed when the case was tried. It is not clear if the aleatory case distribution procedure was respected.
The NGOs said the case was examined by a panel of judges that was set up the same day. Two of the judges did not form part of the Civil Board, as the Procedure Code provides. The judges represented the Economic Board and the Penal Board. The initial composition of the panel was modified with the aim of influencing the final decision.
Alexandru Tanase called on the Supreme Council of Magistrates to investigate the identified irregularities.
