The descendants of the healthcare workers who died because of COVID-19 after becoming infected in the line of duty will receive allowances. Parliament voted a relevant bill in two readings on July 9. The calculation basis is the average monthly income for the last 12 months before the death, but not less than 50% of the average monthly official salary, IPN reports.
Allowances will be provided to the surviving husband, for a period of five years of the date of death (50% of the calculation basis), children under 18 or until they complete studies, until 23 (75% for each successor); one of the parents if there are no descendants of the first two categories (50% of calculation basis).
The allowance is set since the date of death, while the necessary documents must be submitted during 90 days. About 3.3 million lei will be earmarked for the purpose for 2020, 13 million lei for 2021 and about 20 million lei for 2022.
The number of persons who contracted the novel coronavirus in Moldova so far came to 18,600. The death toll from COVID-19 stands at 624. Of all those infected, 2,587 are healthcare workers. Twenty-eight healthcare employees lost the battle with the disease by now.
