The Party of Communists strives to win back power mainly because this would allow them to stop the prosecutors from revealing the illegalities committed in 2009 by the then governing party, political analyst Vitali Catana told Info-Prim Neo. According to the analyst, the recent initiation of criminal proceedings against an intelligence officer, who allegedly wiretapped his colleagues during the Communist government, proves his point. “There will be more such cases, and the Communists are very worried about this. If they come back to power, they will find the necessary levers to stop the initiation of other proceedings”, said Vitali Catana, adding that the Communists are trying to push things to snap elections and create an atmosphere of incertitude, when the state bodies are less functional. Asked what the ruling alliance should do in the current situation, the expert said that the tree component parties should persuade the Communists to accept the role of opposition in exchange for certain levers of control over the government. Alternatively, the only way for the Alliance is to find among the Communist MPs the two missing votes needed to elect the president.
