Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin reacted to the Statement on the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova adopted by Parliament on July 21, drawing a parallel with the situation in Georgia in 2008.
“By the way, the Parliament of Georgia, before their military attacked South Ossetia and our peacekeepers, also demanded to pull out the troops,” Dmitry Rogozin wrote on his Twitter account.
The comment wasn’t overlooked by Moldova’s Parliament Speaker. Andrian Candu said in Parliament that “Rogozin sends his greetings to us” and put his signature on the Statement.
The Statement was signed by the MPs of the PDM, PPEM, PLDM and PL. The legislative body calls on the Russian Federation to complete the withdrawal of the troops and munitions from Moldova’s territory in accordance with the international law principles. It also calls upon the Government and the President to encourage by all ways possible the adoption of a resolution on the withdrawal of the illegal military forces from Moldova’s territory by the UN General Assembly. The Party of Socialists condemned the statement, saying this will thwart the efforts made to improve the relations with the Russian Federation and the results achieved in this regard during the past half a year.
