Head of Parliament Andrian Candu called on the leaders of the people protesting in central Chisinau to come together for a meeting on January 21. He made the call on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

The Speaker called upon the people not to yield to provocations. “The protests are good when the people protest peacefully. This is a democratic exercise, but some do not understand correctly. There were provocations and victims who were injured slightly. We need a peaceful atmosphere,” said the official.

Andrian Candu noted that he made a call to protesters’ leaders. “I discussed with Mister Dodon (Socialists’ leader, e.n.) and will issue invitations to other people who protest near the Parliament Building. The dialogue for the country’s benefit is the most important thing. The Government was invested today and it is important to allow it to work and archive clear results, regardless of its political color,” he stated.

On January 20, a large crowd of people came together before the Parliament Building to protest against the voting in of the new Cabinet. When this was given a vote of confidence, the people surrounded the Building so as to prevent the MPs from going out and demanded that the vote be annulled. Protesters forced a lateral door and entered, but these were driven off by the police. Ten persons, four of whom police officers, suffered injuries in the altercations and shoving. Liberal MP Mihai Ghimpu was among those hurt.

The protest involved sympathizers of the Party of Socialists, the Political Party “Our Party” and of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”. It lasted until late at night.
