Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu welcomed the organization of the Chisinau International Marathon and announced that he will take part in this year’s race. The organizers of the marathon had a meeting with the Speaker within a joint training session, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the organizers.
“I will encourage my colleagues, my family and friends to take part in it as this is first of all an important event. Secondly, sports should be promoted more,” said Andrian Candu.
Dmitrii Volosin, who heads the event’s organizational committee, said the Chisinau International Marathon is becoming a tourist attraction for hundreds of athletes from abroad. This year the marathon, which will take place on Aril 17, will involve about 15,000 people, almost 500 of whom represent another 50 countries.
In the meeting, Andrian Candu and Dmitrii Volosin discussed the possibility of staging a large-scale national running race on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence. This will be a relay race that will start in northern Moldova and will end in the southern districts. It will go through 25 key settlements where there are important historical monuments. “Let’s run from the north to the south and reach the most interesting places. It is a distance of 600-700 km. The flag will be carried by athletes from a number of districts,” stated Dimitrii Volosin.
Among other projects of the amateur athletes that are supported including by the Head of Parliament are to create a database of all the sportspersons, with their bibliography and reached records, and to actively engage amateur athletes in working out policies to promote a healthy lifestyle.
