The Charity Foundation “Angelus Moldova” signals the need to modify the legal framework for developing palliative care services, Info-Prim Neo reports. Palliative care is offered to patients in terminal stages. Executive director of the foundation Valeriu Isac told the press that about 25,000 people in Moldova needed palliative care. Currently, the people providing such services aren’t recognized by authorities as qualified specialists. The amendment of legislation would ensure equality between healthcare workers and palliative care specialists. “We need professionals to be trained in this field, because palliative care is a profession like any other and requires special training”, said Valeriu Isac. At the moment, about 900 patients benefit from Angelus Moldova services and the number of those in need of such care is growing. The foundation has 25,000 members and spends 130,000 lei monthly for the care of 900 incurable patients.
