The Baptist Church “Annunciation” calls on the people to go to church on January 15, when presidential elections are to take place, and pray for the election of a wise President. Representatives of the Church also launched a call to the priests, urging them to persuade the people to pray on the election day, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on Thursday, priest Vasile Filat said all the Christians must pray so that the President realizes his/her responsibilities towards God and the people. “We, the Christians, pray for God to help us to elect a wise head of state on January 15. This person should be a model of maturity and good judgment for the Moldovan political class so that he has influence on the other politicians,” said the priest.
Vasile Filat urged the politicians to read and consult the Bible. “The politicians who rule the country should have time to study the Scriptures as God will guide them by his values and wisdom,” he stated.
He called upon the Christians to start January 13 with a pray because Saint Basil the Great died on this day. “We should start the day with a pray for the country’s political leaders. The President must be a person of integrity who is afraid of God and who makes a difference between what is good and what is bad,” said the priest.
As to the announced candidates – Leonid Talmaci and Oazu Nantoi, Vasile Filat said both of them are worthy persons with potential.
Asked why the Church becomes involved in political affairs, Vasile Filat said he does nothing but urge the people to pray and contribute to the election of the head of state.
The MPs on January 15 will try again to elect the President of Moldova.
