Another 70 infections with COVID-19 and one death reported in Moldova

Seventy new cases of infection with COVID-19 were confirmed in Moldova on April 1. Of these, two are of import and 68 are of local transmission. The number of infections now rose to 423, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu stated after the meeting of the Single Command Center that manages the COVID-19 pandemic, IPN reports.

According to the minister, one more case of death was reported on the left side of the Nistru. No other details were provided. The death toll from the novel coronavirus in Moldova now stands at five.

Viorica Dumbrăveanu said tests for COVID-19 are now done at the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency and at private labs that modified the sample collection method and now use the same method as the Agency’s lab.

The minister also said that a donation of test kits from a business entity will be delivered tomorrow. The Ministry plans to buy 100,000 more test kits in the nearest future.

Prime Minister Ion Chicu said he was informed by the police that priests continue to hold services. A number of priests contracted the infection. One of these priests infected a number of his children. New cases of infection with COVID-19 were reported in Carahasani village of Ștefan-Vodă district, Ștefan-Vodă town and Soroca town, where quarantine was instituted on March 31. The residents of these localities are asked to show understanding.
