Another suspect in Chisinau Gaz case arrested

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office arrested a third person suspected of involvement in the appropriation scheme employed at Chisinau Gaz. It is a former female employee of the company aged 58, who worked as engineer for labor protection, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime. The woman is suspected of acting in complicity with the bookkeeper who was arrested yesterday and is now held at the remand unit of the Anticorruption Center. At the end of May, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion that he acted as an intermediary in the embezzlement scheme. He is suspected of appropriating funds from the company under an agreement with officials of Chisinau-Gaz. He found consumers who were ready to pay a lower sum than the one indicated in the bill and then 'settled the debts' in concert with officials of the gas supplier. Thus, in the bills of the beneficiaries there were indicated 'zero' debts for gas, but in the company's bookkeeping documents the debts remained. The investigation goes on to establish all those involved, including the persons who illegally paid the gas bills.
