The Law on the Prevention and Combating of Discrimination, known as the Antidiscrimination Law, can be adopted without obstacles if three aspects are agreed: banning of parades, marriages and adoptions among persons with nontraditional sexual orientation, considers lawmaker Ana Gutu, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The discussions took place in a meeting with the administration and residents of Nisporeni, where a participant expressed dissatisfaction with the Parliament’s intention to adopt this law.
According to Ana Gutu, everybody is free to decide their sexual or religious orientation as long as their choice does not directly affect society. The adoption of the law is now hindered by a series of conflicts between the Orthodox Church and persons with nontraditional sexual orientation. The Church does not accept relations between persons of the same sex, while the community of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people demand equal rights in society.
“If we manage to reach an agreement as regards the banning of parades, marriages and adoptions, this law will not represent a problem for society. This law is one of the five laws that are yet to be adopted of the 33 set by the European Union for starting the liberalization of the visa regime,” said the MP.
The Moldovan Metropolitan Church and a number of Christian associations have staged a series of protests against the adoption of the Antidiscrimination Law.
