The People’s Movement “Antimafie” has launched the campaign “Maia Sandu – prime minister!” and calls on civil society, opinion leaders and other activists to promote acting minister of education to the post of head of the new Government.

“Antimafie” leader Sergiu Mocanu, in a news conference at IPN on July 23, said that the circumstances can make the Liberal Democratic Party nominate Maia Sandu for premiership. The leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat would field this candidate in order to blackmail the first deputy head of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc so that this ultimately accepts Filat as Premier, not Maia Sandu.

“That’s why I think that Maia Sandu, who is not wanted as Prime Minister at least by those who will field her, must enjoy people’s support,” said Sergiu Mocanu, noting that messages of support will be disseminated trough social networking sites and through mass media. Before the Parliament Building, there will be mounted demonstrations in support Maia Sandu and protests if this candidate is not put forward for Prime Minster.

Sergiu Mocanu also said that Maia Sandu could help achieve the goals set by Moldova because she showed she is a good reformer in the education system, enjoys credibility outside the country and could be supported by the foreign partners. If Maia Sandu enjoys people’s support, she will be able to help Moldova overcome the difficult situation in which it is now.
