The dwellers of an apartment building located on Calea Orheiului St in Chisinau's Posta-Veche quarter warn they will demolish the constructions that will be erected near their block. They are dissatisfied that the company that carries out the construction works placed the protection fence six meters of their building, not at a distance of minimum 30 meters, as required by law. Three buildings with at least nine stories each are to be constructed in the area, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We cannot remain calm when we know that our building can collapse,” the leader of the dwellers Grigore Doros said at a meeting on Wednesday. He stressed they will send a letter to the Chisinau City Hall, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Anticorruption Center, asking that the construction authorizations issued by the Chisinau administration and the Ministry of the Environment be verified. “If no measures are taken, we will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights,” Grigore Doros said. Elena Botoroga, one of the dissatisfied dwellers, said the construction company intends to cut more than 100 trees. “The block was built in 1987. The same year, a park was set up behind the building, where we walk and relax. Now this company wants to mercilessly cut the trees,” the woman said. The meeting was attended by Oleg Onofrei, the head of the building site. He denied the accusations made against the company. “All the works are performed according to plan and there are no deviations,” he said. The dwellers said they wanted to meet with the company's director. A meeting was scheduled for Thursday, February 25.
