Two young men, aged 17 and 18, from Basarabeasca district, have been arrested on suspicion of having broken into an apartment in the Buiucani sector of Chisinau and stealing mobile phones and a laptop. During the theft, the apartment owners were sleeping in the bedroom, IPN reports.
According to a press release of Chisinau Police, the suspects have confessed and told the officers how they entered through an open window on the ground floor. One of the thieves stood guard outside, while the other carefully stole the goods without being heard by the owners.
They had been previously arrested for similar crimes in Chisinau. They are now charged with theft and may receive a fine between 6000 and 20000 lei, can be sentenced to 180-240 hours of community work or up to 4 years in jail.
The police recommend the owners of ground floor apartments to close their windows during the night, to install security bars or an alarm system.
