Despite the poor performance of the internal affairs bodies on April 7, 2009 and the abuses committed by the police the following days, the Ministry of the Interior remains the most interested in the completion of the investigations, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said in the hearings centering on the April 7 case held in Parliament, IPN reports.
According to the minister, 43 police officers, including former managers of the Ministry of the Interior, are now under investigation. Of them, 19 policemen continue work, most of them being reinstated by court decisions. Major Lieutenant Ion Perju, who was acquitted by the Buiucani Court on all counts, remains suspended.
Ion Perju was accused of abuse of power and intentional causing of bodily injuries that resulted in the death of Valeriu Boboc.
Dorin Recean said the April 2009 events revealed shortcomings in the work of the law enforcement bodies, including the fact that political influence is exerted on them. The new legal provisions adopted limit the interference of the political factor in the work of the police. The police officers are obliged to work in strict compliance with the law, not to fulfill the illegal orders of their superiors.
