April events staged at Satiricus

The events and episodes that rocked the entire nation last April will be staged at Satiricus Theater in Chisinau. “The hyperpolitization of society produces monsters. That's what the play is about”, director Sandu Grecu has told Info-Prim Neo. The play is based on a script by Constantin Cheianu, titled “Cu bunelul, ce facem?...” (And what about Grandpa?...), and Irina Nechit's play “Coridorul mortii” (The Corridor of Death). “When a problem grieves me and I see the society distressed by this problem, I try to find the play that could help me talk with the audience. Some fear that this play could produce a change in values. But I think that this play annoys the communists, who are trying everything to stop the awakening of the national consciousness”, Grecu said. The play involves virtually the entire troupe of the theater. “Many people come to Satiricus to take their dose of liberty. For 8 years, Satiricus has been some sort of a clinic that dispensed society with the freedom it needed. Our intention is not to stage a play for the sake of a play, or for the sake of the art, but we intend to make a living, an open play that would address issues troubling the people, the society”, added Grecu. The premiere will be held on March 31, with reruns on April 7 and 8. The play could be also staged in Targoviste, Brussels, Paris and London.
