The November 26 searches and arrests of members of an extremist group are not a show staged before the elections, as some assert, said veterans of the Nistru war who are members of the Association “Tiras-Tighina”. According to them, they informed the authorities about the existence of such groups two years ago.

In a news conference at IPN, the chairman of “Tiras-Tighina” Anatolie Caraman said the Association notified the law enforcement bodies and the country’s administration of the existence of extremist groups in 2012, after a Union March was mounted in March and members of a number of such organizations tried to impede the event.

“We informed the Presidential Office, the Government and the competent ministries and Parliament that these extremist organizations hatch a coup in Moldova,” stated the veteran. “We have issued warnings during two years. With delay, but the law enforcement bodies reacted and what they did was right. Those who took part in yesterday’s operations should be awarded.”

In another development, Anatolie Caraman denied the involvement of Democrat Vlad Plahotnciuc in the veterans’ attempt to hinder the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk from boarding the plane to Moscow. “I note that Plahotniuc has no connection with the protest we mounted on November 10,” he stated.

Anatol Caraman, who serves also as a coordinator in the Union Council, said that on the National Day of Romania, marked on December 1, the Council will hold no street events so as to avoid attacks on the part of extremist groups. The event will be marked in libraries and homes of culture.
