The Prosecutor General's Office is investigating the beating of the candidate for MP of the Communists Party Artur Reshetnikov, the head of the PGO's press office Maria Vieru has told Info-Prim Neo. The spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior Chiril Motpan told a news conference that they are examining several versions.
The Communists Party issued a communique, saying the former director of the Security and Information Service was subject to cruel attacks. “On the night of November 23, Reshetnikov was attacked by a group of individuals. He was beaten brutally and was found by his wife near the house with multiple injuries, including head traumas. According to the first testimonies, the individuals threatened Reshetnikov with a gun and tortured him with the help of psychotropic substances, demanding that he sign a number of documents,” says the communique.
Artur Reshetnikov was admitted to the neurology section of the Emergency Hospital. He told the reporters from the hospital that he was kidnapped yesterday at about 16.00, when he was in central Chisinau. He was beaten and taken by a car to a building, where the kidnappers tortured him and tried to obtain information discrediting Vladimir Voronin from him. “They put the gun to my temple and threatened to kill me,” Reshetnikov said. According to him, he was tied and thrown out and warned that he has several days to find out the information they asked for.
Sources in the Emergency Hospital has told Info-Prim Neo that Artur Reshetnikov was brought to the hospital at about 1am, accompanied by the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, Mark Tkachuk, Iurie Muntean and other heavyweights of the party. They came together with a filming crew that recorded how Reshetnikov was hospitalized. His room is now guarded. Doctors of the Emergency Hospital doubt it that Artur Reshetnikov had been tortured, saying he has no bruises or traumas showing this.
Vladimir Voronin said it was an attempt to frighten the members of the party before the elections.
Communist candidate Iurie Muntean has told Info-Prim Neo that the Alliance for European Integration is involved in this case. “Don't you realize what's happening in this country. Are there people who still believe that new forces came to power that want this country to be prosperous? Bandits came to power. They cannot fight the fear and poverty. Everything started on April 7 and continued with attacks on the Communist MPs. Now a candidate representing the Opposition was abducted in central Chisinau and tortured during five hours, while Filat, the greatest European, was presenting his successes in the European integration process to young people in the Great National Assembly Square,” Iurie Muntean said.
The PCRM opened its own inquiry, saying it does not trust the present administration.
