The Public Services Agency (ASP) is determined to advance its digitalization processes, which should be centered on the convenience of citizens. Already by 2025, it aims to have 50% of its services digitized.

“We want to spare people of the nuisance of standing in endless queues, and accessing public services over the counter should only be optional”, said ASP head Mircea Eșanu during the Moldova Digital Summit.

“We are confident that in the next 2-3 years the number of people who will hold a document with a qualified electronic signature will increase rapidly, easily reaching one million citizens”, added Eșanu.

According to the official, despite the large number of requests for data from the ASP registers (156 million requests in the last 15 months), access to the digital services of the ASP remains at a fairly low level. “There is an explanation for this. Out of 3.3 million Moldovan citizens over the age of 18, only about 200,000 have a qualified electronic signature. And in order to be able to request electronic services, citizens need an electronic signature”, explained Eșanu.

The official added that starting from the first half of 2025 ASP will enter the straight line for the production of a new identity document - the electronic identity card. In a first for Moldova, the identity card will be used not only as a document to identify the holder within Moldovan territory and as a travel document for select countries (under specific intergovernmental agreements), but also as an electronic identification document in the information systems of public institutions.
