The Association “Moldova Mea” condemns the statements made by the deputy of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Ilia Uzun, who called the residents of the region to arms. Representatives of the NGO said that Moldova does not need tensions, while the problems that appear can be solved by dialogue and agreement, IPN reports.
In a news conference at IPN, the Association’s head Fiodor Ghelici said the Gagauz deputy is insistently inciting the people to civil war. His statements are dangerous for the state. He must be punished and excluded from the People’s Assembly. Though the Ukrainian community in Moldova is larger than other ethnic groups, this community does not demand autonomy and respects the country’s people. The other ethnic groups should do the same and should not incite to war and hatred.
Alexandr Iudin, a member of the Association “Moldova Mea”, said he is concerned about the calls to arms of particular persons. “We must coexist in peace and must do our utmost to prevent any kind of tensions,” he stated.
Journalist and writer Mihail Lupashko reminded about the Nistru armed conflict and called on the people to condemn the instigation of hatred and war. The radical statements never brought peace and understanding.
The Association’s member Alexandr Kolotovkin suggested the government to consult society about any problem, even when it is about the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, so as o avoid radical ideas on the part of persons or groups.
Deputy of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Ilia Uzun, in a meeting with ambassadors working in Moldova, warned that the Gagauz people can resort to arms in order to defend their land, which is the land of Bujac, not of Bessarabia. The statements were made in February, but became known only now.
