The proposed amendments to the Code of Audiovisual Media Services will be discussed in public consultations held by Parliament’s Committee on Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sports and Media. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, IPN reports.
Those interested in attending the meeting in person will need to register and produce a Covid certificate. Otherwise, the event can be watched online.
On Thursday, the parliamentary majority approved in first reading a set of amendments which, among other things, will re-institute Parliament’s control over the public broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova (TRM). If the bill is adopted, the current members of the TRM Supervisory Board, the director general and the deputies of the director general will be automatically dismissed. A director general will be then appointed by Parliament on the proposal of the Supervisory Board.
Also, the bill enables Parliament to dismiss Supervisory Board members if their job is deemed unsatisfactory.
