Audiovisual media services strategy approved

The Broadcasting Coordination Council approved the audiovisual media services strategy for 2016-2018, which forms part of the efforts to reform and implement policies to develop Moldova’s broadcasting sector, IPN reports.

Dorina Curnic, head of the Council’s Licensing, Authorization and Monitoring Division, in the April 15 meeting said the strategy will contribute to implementing digital terrestrial television by the December 31, 2017 deadline.

The strategy envisions the provision of audiovisual media services to the population through a multiplex and identification of solutions to ensure the continuity of the audiovisual media services provided by regional/local broadcasters in the process of transition from analog terrestrial television to digital television. Its goal is to promote the national audiovisual production by supporting the broadcasters to produce national audiovisual programs and to create a viable dialogue platform between the Broadcasting Coordination Council, the broadcasters and service distributors.

Among the strategy’s objectives are also the implementation of digital terrestrial television, strengthening of the national linguistic and ethnic heritage, development of the broadcasting market, ensuring of diversity of pluralism and balance in the offers of channel services, etc.

In accordance with the plan of action for implementing the audiovisual media services strategy for 2016-2018, the results of the implementation process will be annually included in the Council’s progress report.
