The Straseni Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent to court the case of an Audit Office member who a year ago caused a road accident that resulted in the death of a child and the injuring of another seven persons, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the tragedy happened on the Chisinau – Balti road on November 8 last year. The accused drove at high speed his vehicle with four passengers inside. Seeing in front a car that intended to legally turn left to Greblesti village of Straseni district, he didn’t reduce the speed and struck the vehicle violently in the back.
A minor boy aged 6 from the hit vehicle died on the spot, while another seven persons, who were occupants of the two cars involved in the accident, were hospitalized with different injuries.
It was later established that the culprit was travelling at a speed of over 99 km/h when the collision occurred. The investigation of the Audit Office member was possible after Parliament gave its consent to this on December 23, 2013, at the request of the prosecutor general.
The case will be tried by the Straseni Court. The charge carries a penalty of three to seven years in jail and a ban on driving vehicles for a period of up to four years.
