Authorities seek for solutions to transportation sector issues

The institutions responsible for licensing, verifying and monitoring companies that provide passenger transportation services will submit proposals for correcting the situation created throughout the country, as decided at a work meeting convened by Minister of Interior Dorin Recean, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting a communique from the Ministry.
The traffic police have proposed the Ministry of Transports and Road Infrastructure, as well as transportation divisions from Mayors’ Offices, to ask transport company administrators to install video recorders in buses and to provide inter-urban buses with seat-belts for passengers. Also, the elaboration of a long-term program was proposed, one that should gradually substitute minibuses with large capacity buses.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Communications will highlight in yellow the license plates of licensed vehicles. For this purpose, the national standard for issuing license plates will be modified. Additionally, the meeting recommended increasing sanctions for illicit passenger transportation.
Representatives of the Traffic Police requested the revision of the current routing system. This implies the creation of a new development concept of urban transports, based on the evaluation of the real flow of passengers and destinations. Also, the Ministry of Education was suggested to develop a through mechanism of selection for drivers who are hired to transport school children.
During the meeting, it was decided to submit urgent proposals for the modification of the functioning of the passenger transportation system, both for the short run and the long run.
The meeting was convened after a deadly bus accident on Thursday that killed 11 passengers.
