The government has approved changes in several effective legal acts on public monuments and war memorials, IPN reports.
According to information from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, a series of initiatives by central and local authorities to build public interest monuments and war memorials has been supported in recent years. The quality of such monuments, their artistic value, leaves something to be desired as they were sometimes erected by people who did not have the necessary qualifications.
The amendments approved by the Government aim at obligating the authorities which launch initiatives to build monuments to select the author by competition, based on the framework regulation developed and approved by the Government.
Another amendment excluded the responsibility of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova to authorize the projects for public monuments and war memorials, since this institution, in accordance with the central administration reform, is subordinated to the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
