Ballots for Chisinau Council to be sent back for recount

The ballots cast for the election of the Chisinau Municipal Council will be transmitted today, June 22, to the district offices and tomorrow they will be sent back to the respective electoral bureaus to be recounted, as ordered by the Chisinau Court of Appeals. Chisinau Election Council Secretary Victor Pertu has told Info-Prim Neo that, starting 9:00am, ballots are being moved from the Centru District Court, where they were deposited for safekeeping, to the district offices. “Tomorrow in the morning they will be distributed to the electoral bureaus which will proceed to the recount. Also tomorrow, they will be returned to the district offices and then back to the Court”. According to Victor Pertu, the results of the recount will be most likely announced on Friday. The outcome of the election for the Chisinau Council on June 5 was challenged by the Liberal Party. Citing insufficient evidence, the Centru District Court had rejected the claim, until several days later, on June 17, the appellate court ordered the recount.
