The Central Election Commission (CEC) allowed testing voting with ballots in Braille for persons with visual impairments in the November 30 parliamentary elections. The testing will take place at 56 polling places of the country and at one polling place abroad, in Romania’s Timisoara, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué of the CEC, such a decision was taken in order to enable the persons with visual impairments to fully exercise their electoral rights and to benefit from these rights to the same extent as the other people of Moldova. These persons will not be accompanied in the voting booth.
The testing will be organized by the Alliance of Access to Information and Training Community Centers of Moldova in partnership with the Association “Motivatie” of Moldova, the Association of the Deaf of Moldova, and the Legal Assistance Center for Persons with Disabilities.
